Publishers Weekly reports on Europa's acquisition of US rights to Alina Bronsky's The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine, a nominee for the 2010 German Book Award. The humorous family saga follows three generations of Russian Tartar women. Over three decades the women struggle to survive Soviet living conditions, a series of bizarre turns of fate, and each other. When they finally immigrate to a reunified Germany, the ties that bind them become horribly twisted.
Bronsky's first novel, Broken Glass Park, was published by Europa in 2010. A finalist for the prestigious Bachmann Prize, the book was called "A riveting debut" (Publishers Weekly); "Wry, furious, hilarious, heartbreaking..." (Library Journal) and "a great read!" (Ms. Magazine).
Europa will publish The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine in May 2011.
