Publicity & Marketing Internship Opportunity

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

Proposed start date: August-September 2024

Length: ~5 months

Hours: approx. 18 hours/week, flexible hours

Supervisors: Kristi Bontrager, Publicist; Edoardo Andreoni, Editor; Kathy Wiess, Director of Sales, Marketing, and Business Development.

The successful candidate will be supervised directly by managers of the marketing, sales, and publicity departments. They will gain experience in many aspects of the daily running of the publishing house. These may include but are not limited to: scheduling, preparing marketing and publicity material including tip sheets and catalog copy; direct-to-consumer marketing through social media, advertising, newsletters; developing effective digital creatives and campaign visuals; metadata management and optimization; online events management. Candidates will also have the opportunity to present titles internally, to salespeople, and to booksellers. 

The internship offers a monthly stipend and unlimited copies of Europa publications.

LOCATION

Candidates will be expected to work in our office in Manhattan, on a flexible schedule.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated interest in the book industry and contemporary adult fiction and narrative nonfiction
  • Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and possess the ability to work autonomously. Excellent writing and communication skills are a must.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (esp. Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) and experience working with Mailchimp, Word, and Canva (or similar)
  • A good feel for advertising copy and effective digital creatives a plus
  • Experience with database management (e.g. Airtable) or inventory management systems a plus
  • Bookselling experience a plus 
  • Editing and copyediting experience a plus.
