Chilean author Luis Sepúlveda, whose deeply affecting novel THE SHADOW OF WHAT WE WERE we had the honor of publishing, has passed away from COVID-19. He lived a life of grace and honesty.
Tortured and jailed by the Pinochet regime during the 1970s, Sepúlveda was exiled in 1977 and traveled extensively before settling in Europe.
He passed away at the age of 70 in northern Spain, six weeks after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
We at Europa Editions send our condolences to his family and loved ones.
We are the shadow of what you were—and while there is light you will exist.
