“If you can think of Sara Levine’s very funny and winning fictional debut as one of those quickie Hollywood elevator pitches, maybe as Robert Louis Stevenson (obvious) meets Holden Caulfield meets Ayn Rand, you’ll have some idea of the tenor of this wackily original tale.” – Martin Levin, The Globe and Mail. A Globe Best Books selection.
A comedy about a college graduate with a history of hapless jobs who reads Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island and is dumbstruck by the timid design of her life. Convinced that Stevenson’s book is cosmically intended for her, she redesigns her life according to its Core Values: boldness, resolution, independence and horn-blowing. Accompanied by a hostile Amazon parrot that refuses to follow the script, our heroine ends up on a domestic adventure more frightening than anything she’d originally planned.
A première production adapted by Karen Woolridge assisted by director Kate Lynch. My Treasure Island!!! features Caitlin Driscoll and showcases the stunning puppeteer work of performer Gemma James-Smith. Play runs October 24 - November 16, 2014 at Toronto's Theatre Passe Muraille.
